Who are Muller & Monroe?-The Exponential Power of Relationships
M2 is named for two streets: Muller Street in St. Matthews, SC, where
André Rice grew up and Monroe Street in Streator, IL, where Terry Mulvihill grew up.
The names "Muller & Monroe" pay homage to the powerful relationship between André and
his longtime mentor and friend, the late Terance "Terry" Mulvihill. Terry recruited
André to Goldman Sachs in 1980, and their relationship blossomed as Terry introduced
André to the world of investments. After leaving Goldman, André went on to become a
private investor as a principal, and Terry was always the first investor in André's
deals. Terry was the first investor to commit capital in forming M2. Given Terry's
and André's different backgrounds, ages and geographies, it was unlikely that the
two would meet and develop such a close personal relationship that would span two
decades. André believes it was fate-or maybe Terry saw "Rice" and thought he was
another Irishman. A chance meeting-fate-who knows. Two people's lives intersect
(like streets crossing), build a trusting relationship that evolves into a life-long
friendship, profitable business ventures, charitable endeavors, and a whole lot of
love, joy, and fun! M2 stands for the exponential power of relationships.
M2 was created to harness the powerful relationship network of the M2
partners, the M2 Advisory Board, and the investors in M2's management company, whom we refer
to as "Bishops". Through this web of relationships, M2 is able to perform offline
due diligence in unmatched ways, as well as, augment the team's deal sourcing and operating
processes. M2 represents how we use our relationships to be better investors,
good citizens, and decent human beings.
